K–2 Literacy Highlights: A Year of Growth and Celebration!

As we reflect on the 2024–2025 school year, we have so much to celebrate in Kindergarten through 2nd grade across FirstLine Schools. Our youngest learners made incredible strides in literacy, and we’re thrilled to share some highlights with you:

📈 Big Gains on the DIBELS Assessment
For the second year in a row, our K–2 students took the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) assessment—and the results are in! We saw growth across all three grade levels.

  • Last year, 55% of K–2 classes had more than half of students reading at or above benchmark. This year, that number jumped to 88%!
  • Both 1st and 2nd grade met our Wildly Important Goal of +10% year-over-year growth. 1st grade grew by an impressive +19%, and 2nd grade by +13%!

🎧 Virtual Tutoring = Real Results
This year, 220 Kindergarten and 2nd grade students participated in daily, live virtual tutoring through our partnership with On Your Mark. The results? Students in tutoring showed significantly stronger progress than those who did not participate.

📚 Celebrating Our Top 10 Readers
We honored our Top 10 Readers in each grade—five students for highest achievement and five for most growth. Their hard work and dedication were celebrated in style!

🍎 A Huge Thank You to Our K–2 Teachers
We are beyond grateful for our incredible K–2 teachers, whose hard work is building the foundation for lifelong learning. This year, 12 teachers were named Teacher of the Month, each one recognized for meeting important achievement milestones.

To all of our donors and supporters, thank you for your generous contributions to make this work possible. To our students, families, and educators—thank you for your partnership and commitment to early literacy success. We can’t wait to see what next year brings!
