The Heat Was On: Iron Chef Returns to Arthur Ashe Charter School!
After a long-awaited hiatus, the Iron Chef Competition made its triumphant return to Arthur Ashe Charter School—and it was nothing short of spectacular.
The gymnasium was buzzing with energy as students and staff gathered to watch one of Edible Schoolyard New Orleans’ most beloved traditions. This isn’t your average school event—Iron Chef brings real culinary heat. In this spirited competition, middle school students team up with some of New Orleans’ most talented local chefs to create bold, flavorful dishes using a mystery ingredient. This year’s secret star? Peppers of all kinds!
With creativity sizzling and teamwork on full display, each team chopped, stirred, and plated their way toward culinary greatness. The aroma of spices filled the air as judges—comprising staff and community members—made their rounds, evaluating each dish on taste, presentation, and use of the secret ingredient.
The big win went to Chef Reagan Sidney’s team, whose dish wowed the judges and earned them first place honors. Along with the glory, the winning team took home a set of cookbooks and an Ashe-branded kitchen set to keep their cooking dreams alive. Huge congratulations to Chef Reagan, Master Chef Season 13 contestant, and her incredible student chefs!
Beyond the competition, the event was a beautiful reminder of what makes our Ashe community so special—collaboration, creativity, and joy. Events like Iron Chef give our students the chance to explore new passions, build confidence, and connect with food in a meaningful, hands-on way.
