Additional resources are being listed on the City of New Orleans’ Coronavirus Resident Assistance page as they become available.

Food:

We are very excited to announce our role in participating in the coordinated city-wide feeding plan to serve our city’s children, organized by NOLA-Public Schools. FirstLine Schools is participating by opening Phillis Wheatley Community School (located at 2300 Dumaine St, New Orleans, LA 70119) from 9am – 12pm, Monday – Friday, for food pick-up and by utilizing our Ashe and LHA kitchens to deliver meals by buses to areas of the city without school serving sites, such as Gentilly Terrace, Filmore, Dillard, Gert Town, and Fontainebleau. Details on specific locations throughout the city where you can get meals for your child(ren) can be found here.

Free Online Academic Resources:

Free online tutoring for students – HomeworkLouisiana, a service of the State Library of Louisiana, has extended its free online tutoring hours to support students during remote learning.

Free Audio Books through Audible: You can now instantly stream an incredible collection of stories, including titles across six different languages, that will help them continue dreaming, learning, and just being kids while schools are closed. All stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet. Explore the collection, select a title and start listening here.

Mental Health Support:

The Louisiana Department of Health has created a “Keep Calm Through COVID” hotline (1-866-310-7977) so that residents can access free, confidential counseling 24/7. The National Association of School Psychologists has resources for parents on talking with children about COVID-19, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness has a general resource guide as well.

SAMHSA’s Disaster Distress Helpline is a toll-free, multilingual, confidential crisis support service that connects any U.S. resident in need to a trained crisis counselor; call 1-800-985-5990 or text “TalkWithUs” to 66746.
