ATTENTION FIRSTLINE FAMILIES: Louisiana has been approved by the USDA to participate in the Pandemic EBT Program. All students who attend FirstLine Schools are eligible, and we encourage you to apply for the P-EBT program. Approved families will receive a SNAP Benefits card in the mail for each student listed on the P-EBT application. If you would like to apply for P-EBT, please follow this link:  http://www.dcfs.louisiana.gov/page/pebt-program#apply 

The application will be open from Monday, May 18 through Monday, June 8. Please note that the deadline to apply for P-EBT is Monday, June 8. The application portal will close on Monday, June 8, and families will no longer be able to apply. If you wish to apply for P-EBT benefits, please do so as soon as possible.

We are very excited to announce our role in participating in the coordinated city-wide feeding plan to serve our city’s children, organized by NOLA-Public Schools. FirstLine Schools is participating by opening Phillis Wheatley Community School (located at 2300 Dumaine St, New Orleans, LA 70119) from 9am – 12pm, Monday – Friday, for food pick-up and by utilizing our Ashe and LHA kitchens to deliver meals by buses to areas of the city without school serving sites, such as Gentilly Terrace, Filmore, Dillard, Gert Town, and Fontainebleau. Details on specific locations throughout the city where you can get meals for your child(ren) can be found here.

Free Online Academic Resources: 

Carry the One: A Parent’s Guide to At-Home Math — a crash course on how to help kids, even when the math looks different or difficult. The next time your kids ask you a math question, you’ll know exactly what to do. The webinar will be on April 28 from 12:00 to 1:00PM EST. The session is intended for parents, caregivers, and other at-home math helpers for students in elementary school. Educators or program leaders interested in creating similar offerings for their own parent communities are also encouraged to attend. Sign up here.

Free online tutoring for students – HomeworkLouisiana, a service of the State Library of Louisiana, has extended its free online tutoring hours to support students during remote learning.

Free Audio Books through Audible: You can now instantly stream an incredible collection of stories, including titles across six different languages, that will help them continue dreaming, learning, and just being kids while schools are closed. All stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet. Explore the collection, select a title and start listening here. 

Abdo Zoom Distance Learning: ABDO wants to ensure that young learners everywhere continue to have the opportunity to learn and grow during this unprecedented event. The Abdo Zoom Databases are available for free now through June 2020 and are available for access here.

Mental Health Support:

The Louisiana Department of Health has created a “Keep Calm Through COVID” hotline (1-866-310-7977) so that residents can access free, confidential counseling 24/7. The National Association of School Psychologists has resources for parents on talking with children about COVID-19, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness has a general resource guide as well.


SAMHSA’s Disaster Distress Helpline is a toll-free, multilingual, confidential crisis support service that connects any U.S. resident in need to a trained crisis counselor; call 1-800-985-5990 or text “TalkWithUs” to 66746.

Cosmic Kids Yoga: It’s important that kids are exercising their bodies in addition to their minds! Cosmic Kids Yoga offers yoga, mindfulness, and relaxation lessons designed specifically for kids.
Recommended for Grades K-3.


7-Minute Workout: This user-friendly tutorial lets students get moving from home! Based on an article published by the American College of Sports Medicine, the workout features 12 exercises using only body weight, a wall, and a chair. Recommended for all grade levels.
