FirstLine Celebrates Black History Month

Throughout the month of February, each of our schools celebrated Black History Month with books, performances, creative displays in the library and on bulletin boards, and lots of discussion and learning about the myriad social, political, economic, and cultural contributions of Black people both in New Orleans and on a national scale.

LHA had an amazing selection of books curated for Black History Month. These students checked some of them out via the library’s BookMobile!

Some students also commemorated important Black historical figures, like writer and activist James Baldwin and baseball player Henry “Hank” Aaron.

The march culminated with several student-led performances.

Our students, faculty, and staff celebrated Black History Month with creativity, grace, and honor this year. We look forward to continuing to celebrate Black history and culture, as well the significant contributions that many members of the FirstLine Family make to our city and our nation, year-round.
