Arthur Ashe Charter School

Arthur Ashe serves over 800 students in grades K to 8 in the Gentilly neighborhood. In 2023, Ashe students saw growth from their previous year’s scores in Math in both the Basic+ and Mastery+ categories. Some of their highest areas of growth included a 3.1% increase in Math in the Basic+ category and a 2.4% increase in Math in the Mastery+ category. Overall, Arthur Ashe saw a +2.9 increase in their School Performance Scores, earning an “A” letter grade for student progress. The Louisiana Department of Education recognized Arthur Ashe as a “Top Gains” school in the state, which shows they have demonstrated excellence in student progress from one year to the next.

Samuel J. Green Charter School

Samuel J. Green serves over 450 students in grades PreK to 8 in the heart of the Freret neighborhood. In 2023, Green students saw growth from their previous year’s scores in all of their four core subjects in the category of Mastery+. Some of their highest areas of growth included a 1.7% increase in Math in the category of Basic+ and a 3.2% increase in Science in the category of Mastery+. Overall, Green saw a +9.9 increase in their School Performance Scores, earning an “A” letter grade for student progress. The Louisiana Department of Education recognized Samuel J. Green as a “Top Gains” school in the state, which shows they have demonstrated excellence in student progress from one year to the next. 

Langston Hughes Academy

Langston Hughes Academy serves over 750 students in grades PK to 8 and is located in the Fairgrounds neighborhood. In 2023, LHA students saw growth from their previous year’s scores in all of their four core subjects in the Basic+ and Mastery+ categories. Some of their highest areas of growth in Basic included a 9.3% increase in Science. LHA students also saw high growth in the category of Mastery, with a 7.2% increase in Math. Overall, LHA saw a +5.1 increase in their School Performance Scores, earning an “A” letter grade for student progress.

Phillis Wheatley Community School

Phillis Wheatley serves over 750 students in grades PreK to 8 in the Treme neighborhood. In 2021, Wheatley was recognized by the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) for their literacy gains with the inaugural Louisiana Models of Excellence Award. This award was created to acknowledge, honor, and spotlight schools serving as exemplary models for implementing the LDOE’s Believe to Achieve educational priorities that lead to student success.

In 2023, Wheatley students grew from their previous year’s scores in all four core subjects in the Basic+ and Mastery+ categories. Some of their highest areas of growth in Basic+ included a 11.6% increase in Science. Wheatley students also saw high growth in the category of Mastery, with a 4.3% increase in Social Studies. Overall, Wheatley saw a +7.5 increase in their School Performance Scores, earning an “A” letter grade for student progress.
